Extra Notes: Despite his shell, Donatello is by no means bulletproof and the rest of his body is just as vulnerable as an average human's when attacked - up to and including pressure points and several forms of poison. His unique biology affords him some protection against drugs and chemicals meant specifically to affect humans. Because his nostrils are so small, breathing through them is difficult and he refrains from it whenever possible. His earholes are small, undefined, and occluded by his mask, therefore he cannot hear as well as the average human. His fingers are larger and thicker than a human's, making him more clumsy when manipulating small devices. His physical appearance in itself can also be considered both a weakness and a strength since the sight of him generally causes people to either flee in terror or attack him, potentially creating unforeseen hazards to them or himself. Finally, the smell and sight of pizza creates an inexplicably strong distraction to him - usually this is just an amusement or irritation for his human acquaintances, but when circumstances demand, he has to focus significant willpower to fight that attraction. |   | Donatello has always been fascinated by science and engineering, and is an innately gifted tinkerer. He is also very adaptable and able to take advantage of his environment in unorthodox and creative ways when required to think on his feet. He is by far the most analytical of his brothers. Frequently, when having stumbled upon something he doesn't understand, he will disassemble it into its individual components and inspect each one individually in order to understand the sum of their participation in the device's operation. The origins of all technology are what fascinate him the most, be it Earthling or otherwise - so much so that in fact he seems to take more interest in it than his ninjutsu training. Among his caveats is although he will always rigorously fight for the cause of defending the innocent, he has little appreciation for most humans, and he places little value in interpersonal relationships (the only human he made an exception for and had a reasonably close relationship with was April O'Neil). He is, however, generally well-liked and does not engage in confrontation when it isn't absolutely necessary. He is considered the second-in-command for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles after his brother Leonardo, but rarely has he been required to step up for this role - he considers support his primary concern. Donatello was raised from the beginning of his sentience on the concept that defense of the innocent is paramount to one's own honor. He takes his role as technical supporter and advisor seriously and will both support and defend his brothers, his mentor, and bystanders to the last. His mental discipline prevents him from getting into trouble quite as easily as his more rowdy brothers and his uncanny focus in critical situations is an incredible asset. Donatello is not impervious to mind control or hypnotic suggestion. He has been known to look down on humans, even ones interested in helping, because he's less than impressed by their constant infighting. His pacifism has been known to lead to him getting injured first, not always able to recognize when a fight is necessary. He relies on his brothers to be there with him when he needs them and grows pensive when alone, to a point where he may not always see a situation that more urgently requires his attention. |

| Donatello's life could not have begun more humbly - one of four baby pet turtles on the way to his new owner's New York City home when the glass bowl containing him and his brothers was accidentally dropped and shattered over a sewer grate. After an unknown period of time crawling in sewage, they were rescued by the Japanese ninja Hamato Yoshi - outcast from clan and country over a matter of treachery conceived by his rival. He gave each turtle a home and the name of a celebrated Renaissance artist. Shortly afterward, while Yoshi was away from his dwelling and the turtles, his rival came to New York City to finish the blood feud he'd begun by dumping a chemical of unknown composition and origin in the sewers. What was intended to kill Yoshi instead caused his genetic structure and that of the rats he was constantly surrounded by to assimilate into each other, turning Yoshi into a human/rat hybrid. The turtles, on the other hand, most recently in contact with Yoshi's uncorrupted human DNA, transformed into bipedal sentients. Yoshi, rather than despair his fate as a freak of nature, chose to consider this a blessing in disguise; he educated and raised the turtles on the principles of honor and discipline. From there, he trained his "sons" in the ways of the ninja. He passed along the specific secrets of the Ninja Juhakkei to the ones demonstrating the greatest aptitude for each discipline - in Donatello's case, bojutsu. Their education and training was assisted - or perhaps marred - by constant exposure to American television and the language constantly utilized by the people walking the streets above them. Their first true mission to protect the innocent was a success but exposed their existence to Channel 6 field reporter April O'Neil and Yoshi's old nemesis, once called Oruku Saki but known to the criminal world only as The Shredder. Since that time, Donatello and his brothers have constantly struggled to defend themselves, New York, and the rest of the world from the multitude of threats that The Shredder and his cohorts in crime have represented and continue to pose. Donatello's role has been that of tech support, providing the various ingenious devices and vehicles the turtles use in their patrols and battles, including the JeepSkate, the Battle Van, and the Turtle Blimp. Notably, it's a frequent occurrence that his devices are less than stealthy - and some have been known to malfunction at the most inconvenient of times - but they have provided the practical uses for which they were intended. After what was believed to be the turtles' final confrontation with The Shredder, Donatello and his brothers drifted slightly apart, not as closely knit when there were no battles to be fought. He acquired gainful employment as a tech support agent... and it is often this money that goes to pay for pizza. | ||
